The Alliant Energy Center has a current full time (1.0 FTE) vacancy for a Center Worker.

Standard hours for this position is Monday – Friday, 2:00pm – 10:30pm with the ability to work overtime as well as weekends.

Undesirable Hours Premium Pay: Employees assigned to this classification will also receive undesirable hours pay of $2.00 for any time worked in a shift between 6:00pm and 6:00am, and for any time on Saturday and/or Sunday.

The eligible list created from this posting will be used for future Center Worker vacancies within the next six (6) months.

DEFINITION
Under the direct supervision of the Operations Supervisor, this classification performs varied and increasingly responsible setup and teardown of expositions, consumer shows, conferences, athletic events, concerts, fairs, and livestock shows. Performs building and grounds maintenance, cleaning, sanitization, scrubbing, floor care, snow removal, mowing, inventory and equipment coordination, and other related work as required to ensure the success of a 164 acre multi-purpose event venue.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Sets and dismantles a wide variety of equipment used in the execution of public events including but not limited to stages, ice rinks, basketball floors, seating risers, scaffolding, staging, convention drape, dividers, ramps, tables, chairs, livestock stalling, concert barricades, etc. Operates a wide variety of motorized and/or electric equipment such as two-way radios, forklifts, pallet jacks, carts, trucks, power scrubbers, ice refinisher, motorized carts, high lifts, mowers, end loaders, standard vehicles, and a variety of handheld powered and/or mechanical tools or equipment. Performs cleaning and light maintenance of equipment and buildings. Creates reports, maintains records, and uses an electronic work order system.

Education, Experience and Special Requirements

Education, Training and Experience:
Must possess high school diploma/GED. Must also possess any combination of experience that is equivalent to two (2) years in general building and grounds maintenance, equipment operation, and/or setup work.

Special Requirements:

Must possess a valid driver's license within six (6) months of employment, and access to reliable personal transportation, or equivalent. Must be available to work long and unusual hours, including nights, weekends and holidays. Must be able to work under extreme external hot and cold weather conditions and during snow and other emergencies. Refer to “Physical and Environmental Work Requirements” section below for other requirements that must be met.

Physical and Environmental Work Requirements:

Ability to routinely lift up to fifty (50) pounds unassisted and heavier loads with assistance. Ability to do manual labor, including repetitive lifting, bending, reaching, kneeling and squatting. Extensive walking over hard and/or uneven surfaces; and the ability to climb stairs and ladders repetitively. Ability to plow snow and apply ice control procedures. Work takes place in a 164 acre complex of multiple buildings. Hours can be long and unusual, including nights, weekends and holidays indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. Scheduling is dictated by client needs and often includes overtime and swing shift work. Clients’ needs create a fluid, deadline-oriented environment. There is public attendance of over one million visitors each year that places demands on the staffs’ tolerance and patience. Ability to handle stressful situations and individuals.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of the methods, tools and equipment used in the presentation and setup of public events at a convention center, multi-purpose arena and or public assembly facility. Possess effective communication skills. Ability to perform manual labor as required in the setup and teardown of equipment used in the delivery of public events. Ability to work in a fluid, deadline driven environment. Ability to direct the work of others when assigned. Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively with clients, co-workers and the general public. Ability to use basic/routine technical equipment such as desktop computers, PC tablets, and cell phones. Ability to routinely monitor and use County email systems. Ability to always provide exceptional customer service, remain calm, and provide problem solving solutions.
